Unpleasant surprise
Posted on Oct 08, 2007 at 14:22 by A. (as in Anonymous ;)

I enjoyed baiting a scammer or two some years ago myself, whenever I was in the right mood (= bored) and needing a bit of entertainment.
I especially remember one called Tambo. I had such fun discussing with him (?) his family tree. You see, I replied to his initial email by asking whether he was related to Mrs. Shelly Tambo-Vincoeur...;) (If you don't know "who" that is, you can google it our in a matter of seconds, I am sure.)

With that sweet memory I came here. And I really enjoyed the tone and wording of some of your replies. (I wish I had found the time to try and extract some dough from them myself. That's brilliant! ;))

But I must say I was sorely disappointed to see the tone of the closing ones. It's a matter of personal taste, of course; but I for one find insults a la "moron" and such, not to mention expressions such as "your cesspit of a country" inelegant and totally unnecessary.
(I won't even mention the unnecessary allusions to spelling mistakes. After all, they are not introducing themselves as native English speakers with an Oxford degree, are they?
And while we are at it... I, as a non-native speaker myself, find it deeply disturbing that so many native speakers spell definitely as "definatly", not to mention speling they're as "there" and so on.)

Obviously this is not meant as an offense, so I hope you won't take it as one.
Again, it's a matter of personal tastes.

And personally I do find extreme politeness and faux-gullibility, peppered with a touch of faux-dumbness, much much more amusing. Insults are not the way to go. They demean the one who utters them and they only spread hatred - not fun.
